Masterclasses

Our Masterclass programme seeks to respond to the needs of more able children both in terms of challenge and emotional development.

It offers a range of activities linked to their specialisms, and encourages creativity and enrichment. The aims and objectives include the important aspects of socialisation and transition, and enjoyment is a key feature.

Masterclass Aims

  • To provide challenge for the more able child in a variety of subjects
  • To provide opportunities for interaction amongst more able children, thus facilitating friendship groups which will support them through their school years
  • To facilitate a positive transition experience for more able children at the relevant stages in their life
  • To provide enjoyment and fun in their chosen subject
  • To overcome any barriers to learning and predispositions to underachievement

Identification of children

Identification is the responsibility of the school and centres around the potential of the child. We would expect identified children to be capable of achieving a level 5 in the KS2 SATs even if there are reasons why they may not.

Notes

Maths Masterclasses usually run throughout the term.

Year 5, 6 and 7 sessions run four weeks before half term and four weeks after.

Enrichment Clusters for Years 5 - 7

All enrichment clusters run on Saturdays 10 a.m. until 12 noon at various centers around Rotherham.

Summary
